Suffolk Public Schools is offering two Career and Technical Education Summer Enrichment Camp sessions this summer for current 5th – 8th graders: Building with STEM Structures and Get a Grip on STEM with Robotics. Both camps will be held at Forest Glen Middle School.
Building with STEM Structures will be held Monday, July 11 through Thursday, July 14, 2016. Camp will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a break for (parent provided bag) lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Students will bridge science, technology, engineering, and math by building various types of structures. Through hands-on activities and team work, students will build different structures to learn about forces, materials, equilibrium, design processes, construction, historical perspectives, structural engineering, technological design and geometry. Some structures will be tested for destruction for observation and analysis of tension, compression, and shear. Registration is $100 per student and is limited to 20 students (current 5th-8th graders.)
Get a Grip on STEM with Robotics will be held Monday, August 1 through Thursday, August 4, 2016. Camp will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a break for (parent provided bag) lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Students will build a robotic arm (theirs to keep) and bring science, technology, engineering, and math to life. Through hands-on activities and team work, students will create and operate robotic arms to get a grip on hydraulics, simple machines, robotics, team work, physics, engineering, Cartesian coordinate systems and basic programming. Registration is $150 per student and is limited to 16 students (current 5th-8th graders.)
Registration and payment for both camps is due by June 23. For more information, contact Chyrel Lassiter at 925-6750.
